How to Have a Successful Blog

When you get started, research and learn as you go. Don’t be afraid to get started! It’s important to share content with purpose. Think about who you reach, who you want to reach, and be intentional about what you share. As you become more comfortable with blogging, don’t be afraid to explore current trends that make sense for you. Pay attention to what works. How can you replicate that, as you move forward?

How to Create Content

Okay, friends. I know – content creation can be DIFFICULT. So, how do you stay inspired? Well, the answer is in the question. Sometimes inspiration is a choice. You have to keep yourself in a place that’s receptive to inspiration. You have to want to be inspired! Pulling the lever to your creativity is a learned skill. Take the initiative to grow this skill. Intentionally place yourself in spaces and mindsets that allow you to really see, unplug, grow, and think. Know that change is a natural part of this process. Be willing to make adjustments. Give yourself the space and time to be honest with yourself so you can create the most valuable content. But don’t stop there! Here are a few strategies for content creation block:

My Favorite Ways to Find Inspiration for Content:

  1. Write down comments and questions from your followers on social media, customers, clients, or business leads! These questions can easily be turned into content. Bonus: answering these questions creates EXACTLY what these people want to consume!
  2. Ask yourself tough questions. What do people come to YOU for? When are you the best version of yourself? What is the role that only YOU can fill for your audience? Ask yourself, and use the answers to come alive!
  3. Reflect on YOUR experiences. If it’s appropriate, write about a personal experience or a pain point. You don’t have to be looking back on an experience to understand and share about it, either. Maybe you’re still in this season or you haven’t even solved the problem. Your followers will relate.
  4. Invest in time with your peers. Being with people who are similar to you can inspire you to see what content THEY would want. (What do they talk about? How do they express their needs?)

How to Share What’s Important to You

Three things that are a part of me – my faith, my family, and my love for geekdom (Disney, fantasy, Harry Potter, Marvel, sci-fi, Star Wars …). This is who I am and being embarrassed about it won’t get me anywhere. People connect with you more when you’re yourself. If you want to share your Bachelor recaps every week, I will not be reading them, but the RIGHT readers will. And we can still be friends! Embrace that! Create connections with your audience and your followers. People want to know YOU, along with your business. Trust this as fact and you’ll reach your people.
